It's the middle of July. For children living in the UK, the summer is just beginning. For children living in Italy, the summer is well under way. For children living in the United States, you are already looking at the shopping list for school supplies. To me, summer just arrived! This means warn weather and here in sunny southern Surrey, we even have 95 degree weather or to those who love the Celsius version...anywhere between 25 and 28. This means BBQ's- and teasing South African neighbours as to who does the best!
Our family summer fun has begun with the birth of a new grandson, so it is play time for me; with lots of cuddles and discussion of the fabulous National Health Service variety of birthing methods. I want to take a moment to celebrate all the nurses and doctors who work around the world -and often around the clock- to help the younger generation get up and running. You help multi-generational and multicultural families with care and expertise that we don't always take time to acknowledge.
I just want to say, our family of many passports thanks you! Hooray for mid-wives and nurses and doctors! Hooray for Health Visitors and Community nurses! Hooray for Pharmacists! Hooray for emergency teams! Hooray for all who work and serve the life and health of communities! We salute you!
If you and your family are relocating somewhere new this summer, please take a moment to read the chapter, "Your Support Team, Do You Have One?" in Parents on the Move. You will need to have contact details for a health adviser-that's someone who can give you the information you need, even in the middle of the night. Have these details in your back pocket when travelling, and not deep somewhere in your luggage. You need numbers for someone who speaks both your language and the new location language, and who knows doctors or hospital emergency info.
Have a safe and healthy summer, whenever you have one.....and to South Africa? Enjoy your winter.
PS: Parents on the Move! is on sale this July and August!
